New pricing just released by Endian is set to revolutionise the Unified Threat Management (UTM) appliance playing field in Australia.
The new Endian pricelist, which took effect at the start of November 2012, is a global pricing trial being run exclusively in Australia and New Zealand, by Endian Italy and local Regional Distributor, Veritech Corporation.
Prices for specific Endian hardware appliances, such as the Mini, Mini Wi-Fi and Mercury have been reduced by up to 50 per cent, while the Endian software pricing hasn’t changed.
Veritech Corporation’s Managing Director, Livio Mazzon, said Endian wanted to realign their prices to make the devices even more attractive to small and medium businesses.
“It’s a bold social experiment but one we feel is going to work.”
“Endian is an up-and-coming player in the UTM system market, and it has achieved success in specific vertical markets such as education, mining and finance”.
However, Mr Mazzon said they noticed that in the European and US markets, Endian is particularly strong in the hotel/hospitality, medical and professional service industries.
“We studied this further and discovered that our local market strengths developed due to word-of-mouth recommendations within industry sectors. So, to provoke some interest from our gap markets, we are combining some striking pricing with new, innovative marketing ideas”.
The Endian range of UTMs has its history rooted in open-source software, but has matured into a polished corporate gateway security device.
The product stands out because of the extensive list of features, but with an intuitive, well-structured web user interface. The ease-of-use is particularly attractive for small and medium businesses.
One important aspect to note, according to Mr Mazzon is that Endian haven’t changed their devices to be able to sell at a lower rate and still continue to offer the same features as before.

- Anti-spam and anti-virus protection
- Wireless hotspot built-in (Wi Fi models include a built-in access point)

- Web Proxy
- SMTP and POP3 proxies
- High Availability configurations
- Traffic Monitoring
Mr Mazzon said the trial will only be run for a limited time, however if it was a success the new prices were likely to stay, which was good news for the UTM system market.
